NRCA’s Teacher Professional Learning (TPL) program is supported by a grant (PD-STEP 2016-05148) from the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) Agriculture Food and Research Initiative Education and Literacy Initiative, as part of their Professional Development Opportunities for Secondary School Teachers program.
The Water & Sustainability Unit that TPL participants receive after the workshop was developed by Laura Rodriguez of UConn's Neag School of Education. The unit was reviewed by Achieve Inc.’s EQuIP Peer Review Panel (PRP) for Science. Feedback on 12/7/17 from Achieve included “one of the best that we’ve reviewed”. Currently, the unit is rated “Example of High-Quality NGSS Design if Improved”, with “nearly a hundred lessons and units [reviewed] through the Science PRP and only a handful hav[ing] achieved th[is] rating.” Revisions are being made based on feedback for resubmission and re-review.
